The Radio Controlled Flight Training School was the perfect match for my needs. I was interested in an intensive flying course that would enable me to progress from novice to pilot. I rang a number of RC clubs and in most cases such a course was not offered and/or council restrictions prohibited these clubs from flying for more than 2-3 days per week. I rang Keith Francis at RC Flight Training and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Keith offered an intensive 5 Day Novice to Solo Pilot flying course. I told Keith I had never flown a RC model and that before I invested in any equipment, I would like to fly one of his trainers using one of his transmitters. Keith was more than accommodating so on day 1 of my flight training I was able to do this. At the end of the first day’s training I was pretty much hooked and committed to RC flying. I told Keith I wanted to purchase my own flying gear. Keith was able to advise on the trainer, transmitter and equipment best suited to my needs and skills. Days 2 and 3 of my scheduled flying course were cancelled due to inclement weather but on these days, Keith and I assembled my training aircraft together. Keith was able to give invaluable advice on model aircraft building including many tips, that the a/c instruction manuals don’t include. Weather permitted three clear days of flying and in short, on day 4 of my 5 Day Novice to Solo Pilot flying course I flew solo.
Keith was a patient, supportive and friendly instructor. His philosophy is to enjoy, relax, have fun and learn in RC flying. I witnessed Keith assisting club members with on site repairs and answer their many varied questions concerning RC flying, aircraft and equipment. Keith has an onsite trailor/shop and is able to supply most, if not all parts as required on the day. I was impressed by the fact that the training area has a sealed runway. I know of no other RC flying cub that offers this. At most clubs pilots land “out there” on the grass area. Landing on a sealed runway improves one’s flying skills and does less damage to aircraft. I live in St.Kilda and the travel time by car to the training area was a comfortable 45-50 mins. I found the other members of the club very friendly and easy going and all of them introduced themselves to me. Some flew glow fuel aircraft, some battery powered, some flew both. True to Keith’s philosophy, they were there to have fun. The 5 Day Novice to Solo Pilot flying course satisfied all my requirements. Importantly, I know Keith will provide ongoing support when it come to my flying needs. I cannot recommend this course highly enough. Thank you Keith
